General Welfare

Just four (4) words "promote the General Welfare" in the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution have defined our Nation's welfare programs.

The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution states:


We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union,
  • establish justice,
  • insure domestic Tranquility,
  • provide for the common defense,
  • promote the General Welfare, and
  • secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,

do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.



The New Deal brought about by Franklin D. Roosevelt changed Constitutional Law forever. Until 1937, the government was limited from intrusion in the private market place. With the New Deal and Roosevelt's push the Supreme Court caved in.

The "Founding Fathers and Framers" of the Constitution knew the meaning of national purpose of government and put in the provision for general welfare to mean "for the welfare of all the people". But this has been expanded since 1937 to include providing government services and taxpayer's money to special groups: not the general public benefits.

The U.S Constitution granted Congress limited powers leaving all other powers to the individual States. Since 1937, Congress has expanded this further and further away from the Framers' original intentions.

Today, we are moving further and further away from the Constitution toward a welfare state where the government takes from one group and gives to another group under the guise of general welfare. The next step is Socialism as we move from capitalism toward communism. Socialism is just a breath away as the government moves to take ownership in private business.

Prior to a state of Socialism, we must stop the welfare state from selecting one group over another for benefits from the government. Our fear is that we are moving our Nation from a Republic to a Democracy where the voting majority can take rights from the minority.

There will always be those who need our help, those who are poor, those who have physical or mental problems and those who are downtrodden and need a helping hand. They will never leave us and as a Nation, our care for them should not diminish. Helping these groups are in line with the General Welfare of the Constitution. As citizens we must help those who cannot help themselves.

What does not fall under the terms of general welfare is redistribution of one's property (money) to another person. No matter how much one group earns, their property should not be taken and given to another. This is not welfare this is a step toward the welfare state where one group can vote to remove property from another group under the guise "it's only fair". No, it is NOT FAIR!

The Income Tax system has been used to create this welfare state. Our efforts are to eliminate the Income Tax which divides our nation into income adjusted groups, creating class warfare.
